The Maltese is a very special dog with a lot of spirit, heart, and loyalty.  This spirited breed is very intelligent, sensitive and responsive.  Most of all, they are extremely loving.

The Maltese will want to be your constant companion whether you are reading a book or going for a walk.  They make good watchdogs, but once a "stranger" is welcomed into the house they will make friends with your guest.

The Maltese will live 14-16 years and will retain his playful and mischievous attitude into his teens.

Maltese usually weigh 4-7 lbs.   They are one of the smallest of the long coated breeds.  The coat resembles human hair and people who are allergic to other breeds may do okay with a Maltese.

Their hair requires more maintenance than short hair breeds, however, they do not shed their coats like shorter hair breeds.

Maltese are sensitive to extremes in temperature, so are definitely house dogs.

Because of their lively personalities, Maltese usually get along well with other household pets.

If there are small children in the family, a larger Maltese is usually a better choice than the smaller Maltese.
